memory of our first time in the ocean!
Over last Christmas break, we had the chance to spend a day looking at the sites around South Carolina, which was enormous fun and full of wonderful memories, but one in particular stands out!
We were visiting Hilton Head beach after eating some lunch at a local place (pretty decent food, but not great). We didn't have bathing suits and the water was freezing so I didn't expect to get into the water. We walked through different shops when Alyssa saw sand dollars for sale (4 bucks a pop!! wow expensive) so she told me we could catch ones as big as our palm ourselves by going into the ocean, wriggling our toes and when I felt something roundish to grab with my toes and pick it out of the water. I said that I can't wait till we get a chance to do that this summer because Alyssa and I were borderline sick from all the stress, late nights and driving around. We left the store and walked down the paths to the beach. It was beautiful! The air was nice and crisp with fog everywhere. The beach had a decent number of people on it (in fact a Canadian guy offered to take our picture with my camera when he saw us taking the picture ourselves), but it was too crowded. I couldn't see anyone in the water even though a few people had suits on.
.... This was when Alyssa got that determined look in her eyes (people who know her know what I am talking about haha) and decided that we were going to get ourselves some sand dollars as souvenirs. I laughed but I love doing random crazy things too so we rolled up our pants (her skirt) to run into the ocean.... the freezing... freezing ocean as it turned out. I tried to follow her direction with my toes but after about twenty seconds I couldn't feel my feet so we ran out, splashing the whole way through!
Our first attempt was unsuccessful and people were already looking at us like we were crazy but that didn't dissuade us from trying again!! We ran back in but sadly suffered the same fate as the first time. We finally decided to just buy a sand dollar to remember our attempt then attempt to dry off before driving back to her Grandparent's house.
This summer the sand dollars will be ours! :D

The First Date
Jason and I met at BJU on September 4th 2010. That day was like me looking at a fairytale through someone else eyes. That day was perfect! When Jason called me to tell me that he was on his way to met me for the first time was like a big stone in my heart. It felt like I was going to be judged for an academy-award.I was sooo nervous! After I got back from extension, I rushed to make sure that I looked perfect. I decided to take a shower than dry my hair. When Jason called me to tell me that he was on campus and that he is ready whenever I was, I began to panic! My hair was still wet! I told him to look at the campus library and to tour around to give me some more time. Once I was finished, I called him and told him I was ready. He met me in front of my dorm (Gaston). Once I seen him for the first time my eyes were in disbelief! He is better looking in person! Yes!
So on the 3rd of September, I talked with Alyssa for about three hours on the phone, which is an incredibly long time for me to be on the phone. She was just so engaging, fun and obviously intelligent! I moved my new bed into my apartment with my parents and that morning I had the urge to be impulsive.... SO... I decided to call and ask (at eleven) if I could drive and meet her in person. Luckily she decided to say yes so I drove 2.5 hours to South Carolina (wow can’t believe I did that now haha). I got to campus early at 4:30 since I was nervous. I actually got gas before I got on campus and talked with a middle aged woman who worked at the gas station. I explained to her the situation and she thought it was so cute, haha. She encouraged me that I seemed like a good guy and not to worry. Honestly, I was worried she would be a bit of a prude since she goes to BJU (sorry BJU people but… its true…). How can I describe the first moment I saw her; it is really difficult. She looked so beautiful! Her eyes were the first thing I noticed. She has the most striking eyes.
Jason and I walked around and talked. I don't have the faintest clue what we talked about. I was too busy thinking how lucky I was. Some time later Jason and I went to my society induction. He actually looked like he was having a good time. We followed the society and laughed at the girls sliding on the slip and slide. At that point, I thought that it would be a good idea to be myself. I felt like a complete fool. I don't know what he saw in me.
Looking back, I can tell she was super nervous, but at the time I thought she was just quiet. I LOVED how she was two seconds from jumping down the slip and slide even in her nice clothes haha. She has such an adventurous spirit :D
Later dinner rolled around. Because of BJU rules about couples dating off campus, Jason decided to get the dinner and bring it back on campus. He actually got Red Lobster! On top of that, he got me the best Shrimp Alfredo! He has great taste! Once he came back to campus, we ate in front of Nell Sunday with our fancy dinner. That was one of my best dates ever!

First time ever I have gotten food at a place like red lobster and driven back to eat in front of a dorm on a stone bench. People gave us the funniest looks but I honestly didn’t care because of the remarkable young lady in front of me. I was just soaking up every moment. It was amazingly romantic.

Special Memories!
By: Jason Cross
I thought it would be fun to write up some of our special memories; you know those moments you can think of that bring a smile to your face regardless of how bad a day was. So without further ado, here are a few random memories for the day!
back on september 10th of last year was the first time Alyssa said "I love you" to me. Of course, it was accidental in that she didn't mean to vocalize what she was thinking since we hadn't been together for that long. The situation was we were in the snack shop at BJU with Amy and Jason (for those who don't know the names here; they helped me propose :D ). I don't

Shopping!!!!!!!!!
Girls day out and shopping for a wedding dress...for me, of course. There was Amy Dibble, Brittany Burford, and Brittany Brown. We went to David's Bridal in Greenville, SC. This is where the fun started!!! Once we got there, we knew we did not have too much time. We started trying on dresses right away! Brittany Burford helped me getting in and out of the dress....bless her!

Engagement Story
Before I begin explaining the whole engagement story, I have to thank my dear friends Jason Hunter, Amy Dibble, Brittany Burford and my family for helping prepare everything and making sure it was a complete surprise for Alyssa! She is a smart cookie so I am incredibly happy that I was able to surprise her (especially since she can read me like a book LOL)! Alyssa's comment: To true! He has a goofy smile that gives everything away. :-)
